Science 10 — Three Ways Two Plates Meet
Two plates can move apart, move toward, or slide past. That is the whole list. What makes the topic hard is not the three names — it is that convergent boundaries build three completely different things depending on what kind of crust is arriving, and a learner who has memorised convergent means trench will be wrong about the Himalayas and wrong about half of this archipelago.
The set for this week
Every item is one file. It opens with a double-click, works with the Wi-Fi off, and copies to a phone or a USB stick.
Course Syllabus
For the teacher. The full year on the three-term calendar. All 45 CG competencies across four domain quarters — and the reason Grade 10 opens on Earth and Space Science when Grade 9 opened on Force, Motion and Energy.
Lesson Plan — ILAW
For the teacher. The whole five-day week in the format DepEd prescribes for filing. Day 3 is the three kinds of convergence, which is the day the week is won or lost.
Lesson Plan — Lesson Exemplar
For the teacher. Day 1 at teaching depth. Two sheets of paper and two books do the whole of plate tectonics in eleven minutes. Seven anticipated misconceptions, led by the one about liquid magma.
Assessment Pack
For the teacher. A Table of Specifications, two tests with keys, a weekly check, and rubrics for all seven quarterly performance tasks — which the Science guide requires rather than suggests.
Class Record
For the teacher. Raw scores in, grade out, at 20 / 50 / 30 under DO 015 s. 2026. Transmutation is a year switch, not a constant. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent.
Slides
For the class. Fifteen slides. Three of them are spent on convergent boundaries alone, because ocean-continent, ocean-ocean and continent-continent build three different things and the guide's own competency says each type.
Which Boundary?
For the class. Three rounds with drawn plate diagrams. Round 2 asks what forms and what happens, and Round 3 is the traps — the magma one, the trench one, and the map of this country.
Offline Activities
For the teacher. Three individual and two group activities needing nothing but paper, books, a candle stub and a bowl of water. Every group member has a named role.
Learner Worksheet
For the class. One A4 page per learner. A table with three rows and three columns — movement, structure, events — and the last item asks why two convergent boundaries can build opposite things.
One Question at a Time
For the class. A different route to the same competency, not a shorter one. Four tasks, each with a worked example above it, built entirely on asking two questions of a boundary before naming anything.
Wall Chart
For the class. A4 landscape, printable and laminatable. Apart, toward and past; the three kinds of convergence; and the two things everybody gets wrong.
