Science 4 — What It Can Do, Not Just What It Looks Like

A physical property is what a material is like. A chemical property is what it can become. You can see that a nail is grey and hard by looking; you only find out that it rusts by leaving it in water for a week. The whole week turns on that difference — and on the fact that a change you can undo is not the same as a change you cannot.

The set for this week

Every item is one file. It opens with a double-click, works with the Wi-Fi off, and copies to a phone or a USB stick.

📘

Course Syllabus

For the teacher. The full year on the three-term calendar. All 33 CG competencies across four domain quarters, with the quarter's required performance task given its own week rather than folded into the end-of-term block.

🗓️

Lesson Plan — ILAW

For the teacher. The whole five-day week in the format DepEd prescribes for filing. Day 4 sets up a rusting-nail investigation that runs into the following week, which is the only honest way to teach a chemical property.

📝

Lesson Plan — Lesson Exemplar

For the teacher. Day 1 at teaching depth. Two identical nails go into two jars in minute six and the class is told they will not know the answer today. Seven anticipated misconceptions.

📋

Assessment Pack

For the teacher. A Table of Specifications, two tests with keys, a weekly check, and rubrics for all four quarterly performance tasks — which the Science guide requires rather than suggests.

🧮

Class Record

For the teacher. Raw scores in, grade out, at 20 / 50 / 30 under DO 015 s. 2026. Transmutation is a year switch, not a constant. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent.

🖥️

Slides

For the class. Fifteen slides. Violet means Materials on every Science artifact in every grade, and it is glyphed and labelled as well as coloured, so the deck survives a photocopy.

🎮

Will It Change?

For the class. Three rounds of escalating demand. Round 3 is the one that matters: it takes on the belief that the word chemical means artificial, which is a science misconception and a shopping misconception at once.

✏️

Offline Activities

For the teacher. Three individual and two group activities needing nothing but nails, jars, water and things from a kitchen. Every group member has a named role, and both group activities work in a class of 45.

📄

Learner Worksheet

For the class. One A4 page per learner. The last item cannot be completed mechanically: it asks what would have to happen for the learner to change their mind.

🩹

One Change at a Time

For the class. A different route to the same competency, not a shorter one. Four tasks, each with a worked example above it, starting from things the learner has watched happen rather than from the words.

🧾

Wall Chart

For the class. A4 landscape, printable and laminatable. Four panels, legible after a black-and-white photocopy, and it stays up for the whole quarter.

📅

+Week Planner

For the teacher. All 33 weeks of the year, with the curriculum guide competency for each.

🧠

+Common Misconceptions

For the teacher. 7 misconceptions this week, and what to do about each.

👀

+Observation Card

For the teacher. Eight slips to cut apart — one per learner — for recording their exact words.

🏅

+What Good Work Looks Like

For the class. The standard, stated to the learner before the task rather than after.

🩹

+One Change at a Time — Science 4

For the class. Science 4, Term 1 · Week 3. A4, photocopy-safe, answer key screen-only.

+Ten Minutes at Home: The Two Nails — Science 4

For home. A one-page home activity for Science 4, using ordinary household objects, with what to say, what to avoid, and how to tell it is working.
